It’s Like Pulling Teeth
By Marc Rosenblum
Ouch!!!!
Have you ever had one of those moments where you dragged your feet to do something that you knew you had to do?
If yes, keep reading. If not, what’s your secret?
As I think back to what happened, I immediately put myself in a bad mood because my lack of action will cost me over $4000 when it is all said and done. My mind thinks…”How many car payments is $4000? How many diapers for our son Seth? How many months of daycare?” I think about all of the things I would rather spend $4000 on. [What would you rather spend $4000 on?]
So…what is costing me $4000? Here it is…
A Tooth!
I do not like going to the dentist (not even a little), on top of the fact that I was self-employed and did not have dental insurance. I had not been to the dentist in over 3 years. Anytime I go to the dentist, not surprisingly, it is always bad news. So, I avoid going.
I woke up one morning and a cap was loose. I couldn’t eat and could barely talk, for fear it would fall off or I would swallow it. So, after thinking of good reasons (of which I came up with MANY) of why not to call, I called – very reluctantly – and they got me in right away.
I went to the appointment and it turns out the tooth underneath the cap (where I already had a root canal) was decaying and causing inflammation in my mouth. The dentist was unable to help me, so off to the oral surgeon for an extraction.
The first appointment with the dentist – $300.
The next appointment to the oral surgeon to remove the tooth entirely – another $300.
Then a few weeks later, back for a full set of x-rays, cleaning and exam – another $350.
Lastly, the kicker, an implant – an additional $3000.
I asked the dentist, “If I had been coming more regularly, could this have been avoided?” He just smiled.
What I learned from this experience is today’s
MONEY TIP: Get Into Action.
How about you…? What do you avoid doing? What can you take action on?
ACTION STEP: I encourage you to take a look at your life and identify at least 1 area that YOU KNOW BETTER to keep avoiding. Then take one (tiny) step to get yourself into action.
This is my challenge to you today… In whatever area of your life that you are stuck…Get into action.
