Happy New Year! 2024 is officially here, and I don’t know about you but I’m feeling pumped and ready to kick some business butt in the year ahead!
And it’s ok if you’re still coming off the vacation feeling and trying to get motivated too. Then today’s note below is even more important for you to connect with why you started this whole business thing in the first place.
I took some time this past week to get quiet, plan, and reconnect with my “why”. You know, the not-so-obvious motivations that keep me passionate about putting my all into my business.
Things like:
Having a business that’s life-proof so that when life throws an unexpected curveball, my livelihood and family’s needs aren’t at risk. A breast cancer diagnosis in 2022 was a wake up call that brought this one home for me big time.
Being a role model for my kids, showing them that you can be a great Mom AND have a successful business. Sometimes it’s a bit of magic and mess at the same time, but really no, you don’t have to choose.
Making an impact in the world and living my passion to help other female business owners not only thrive but be unapologetically successful in their businesses AND their personal lives.
Having the time and financial flexibility to live life on my own terms, and showing others that they can do that too.
When I say the words “holiday travel”, do you immediately picture yourself stressed out, rushing, and trying to wrangle your family out the door like a less glamorous version of the Home Alone opening scenes?
I’ve been there and done that, and although I’ve never left one of my kids home on their own during a holiday travel rush, I HAVE felt the stress that can come along with a ton of travel. (Remember my email not long ago about my whirlwind 5 events in 48 days?).
I’ve developed some pretty handy tips and tricks for making travel more seamless, and since the busiest travel time of the year is literally next week (yikes!), I thought now was a good time to share some of those tips with you!
Whether it’s a networking event or a family holiday get-together, a little prep can make a huge difference. Without further ado, here are a few of my top tips!
Pack your clothes on flat light-weight hangers for easy packing and unpacking. (Yes, bring your own hangers!)
Try using compression packing cubes. They help keep things separate and organized with no need to even fully unpack what’s inside.
Have a separate “travel” toiletry bag that’s always packed and ready to go with your essentials. I like to use travel sized versions of my faves to save on space.
Pack an easy snack/goodie bag for unexpected situations. (If you travel with kids, this is a life saver!)
Take a lightweight extra tote or bag to help with the extras you might bring back with you.
I can’t be the only one who wonders how to work less during the busy holiday season when the beginning of November rolls around.
OK truth be told, I think about that all year round…
Whatever holidays are part of your family’s traditions, chances are you’ll have the kiddos home for school break and your family to-do list gets longer than usual.
If you were planning your perfect holiday season and decided that you were only going to work ONE day a week in your business, how would you spend that time?

If you suddenly had to narrow down what you do in your day to things that you KNOW have a direct impact on your income, what would go straight to the top of your to-do list… and what would get kicked off?
You’ve probably heard of the Pareto Principle (aka the 80/20 rule) which states 80% of results are produced by 20% of causes.
When I’m working with my students inside Cash Flow CEO, we work on getting laser-focused on that 20%.
Because let’s face it, there are a million ways to make money in your business and that can put you in real “analysis paralysis.” And since you could do any of those things, sometimes you end up doing nothing new in fear of doing the wrong thing. (It’s totally normal — and fixable with the right guidance.)
Setting a revenue goal is all the business money planning you need. (Or is it?)
Drumroll please…. this is a total MYTH!
Although it’s all that most business coaches suggest, the truth is that you need to make a real plan for profit, not just revenue.
If you don’t make enough profit, your revenue goals don’t matter because your business isn’t sustainable.
But what usually happens?
When we just plan for revenue and set a goal for the overall dollar amount we want to bring in and then hope for the best, we leave our livelihood (based on the actual profits we net) to chance.
Most people are encouraged to set a big target revenue goal for the year but then they think the “planning” is done.
Based on how alot of business coaching programs work, I can totally see how the myth of simple revenue planning becomes the norm. No one is talking about the importance of PROFIT or how just working harder to make more revenue might not be the answer to actually paying yourself more. (It can actually be exactly the wrong advice.)
The reality is that a revenue goal is just the very tip of the planning iceberg that successful, intentional, scaling CEO business owners do.
